• SB 54 California Wall of Justice for Immigrants
With the recent series of raids and new orders, this vulnerable population is being criminalized, living in fear, and families are being separated. The fear among immigrants, especially those undocumented, has significantly increased at the same time that the safety within our communities ha diminished. SB 54 is essential because the issue it's rooted in a discriminatory process tearing families apart. SB 54 will create safe zones throughout the state by prohibiting immigration enforcement on public schools, hospitals and courthouse premises. President Trump's Executive Order because it blurs the definition of what a serious criminal is. Public safety will suffer if local law enforcement loses the trust of the immigrant community or uses its resources to enforce immigration laws instead of focusing on serious felonies. State and local participation in immigration enforcement will come at a serious cost to California unless appropriate safeguards are put in place.

  • Tell Miami Mayor Carlos: Don’t bow to Trump. Protect immigrants in Miami!
Trump and his administration are trying to intimidate cities across the country by defunding those who are committed to protect their immigrant populations. Instead of standing up to Trump like many other cities have, Miami Mayor Carlos has turned his back on immigrants in this city by ordering county jails to comply with Trump’s immigration detention requests. Our community is no longer safe - we must act quick to resist. If enough of us sign this petition, we’ll put the necessary pressure on Mayor Carlos to resist Trump and his anti-immigrant policies that will destroy families and damage our economy. Immigrant families deserve to co live with dignity and respect in the city they call home. Picture Source: Alan Diaz/AP

  • Stop Texas Lawmakers' Attack on Immigrant Students. #StopSB4
My name is Karla Perez and I am an undocumented law student at the University of Houston Law Center. I will graduate from law school in May 2018, twenty-three years after coming to Texas with my parents. My parents and I have set down deep roots in our community, just like many of the 1.5 million undocumented immigrants who call Texas home. Right now, anti-immigrant legislation could be signed and that would make all Texans less secure. Anti-immigrant bills like Senate Bill 4 by Senator Charles Perry enable racial profiling, and someone like my father, an undocumented person of color, can run the risk of their immigration status being used by local law enforcement to turn them over to ICE. Senate Bill 4 will give local law enforcement the power to enforce federal immigration law, even though they are not trained to do so and this puts people like my parents at serious risk of landing in immigration proceedings and being torn from their loved ones. Increased mistrust in law enforcement will not keep us safe and will only drive undocumented crime survivors and witnesses into the shadows and away from getting the justice they deserve. Students and educators, along with faith, business, and law enforcement leaders agree that anti-immigrant bills like Senate Bill 4 are bad for all Texans. Add your name to stand against racist SB4.

  • Menlo Park, CA: Sanctuary City Ordinance
Our immigrant community is particularly vulnerable to the current national rhetoric. These families feel scared and uncertain about being targeted and detained because of their immigration status. Immigrant children in Menlo Park schools feel scared and uncertain. We who favor adopting a sanctuary ordinance want Menlo Park to be inclusive and supportive of our most vulnerable community members, including immigrants. Sanctuary ordinances have been passed in 300 cities and counties in the US. The goal of adopting a sanctuary ordinance is to strengthen the local community by increasing trust and communication between residents and city employees. With a publicly adopted sanctuary ordinance, immigrant families in the community are less fearful of federal intervention and therefore more likely to cooperate positively with local police, school officials and other city employees.

  • Protect Immigrant Youth: Pass Dream Act Now!
**DACA has been terminated - but we will deliver your signatures to Members of Congress showing the support that Americans have for people impacted by this announcement so that they quickly move to pass a Dream Act right away that isn't used as a vehicle for anti-immigrant policy** This is important, because hundreds of thousands of workers, families, and immigrants depend on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. If enough of us demand that General Kelly take a stance in favor of keeping the program, we can be a step closer to protecting nearly 800,000 people from deportation.

  • Tell Texas Legislators: Keep In-State Tuition!
If anti-immigrant Texas legislators get their way, I won’t be able to complete my education. My name is Maria Gonzalez-Treviño, and I am an undocumented honors student attending the University of Houston. I hope to obtain my bachelor’s degree in Political Science by May 2018 and my ultimate dream is to go to law school and become an immigration attorney to help immigrants in my community. Unfortunately for me and thousands of students across Texas, our dreams might be crushed by the end of the legislative session. I will fight against these bills and similar ones because I see many other undocumented students’ stories as a reflection of my own. Let’s be clear; these bills are an attack on our ability to pay the in-state tuition rate at Texas colleges. As a first generation college student, I struggled to adapt to the college environment. Doubling or tripling tuition fees would only make college even more inaccessible for many of us. Everyone should have access to an education regardless of their skin color, religious beliefs or immigration status. We have the power to make sure that undocumented students like myself keep dreaming and achieving their educational and professional aspirations. If enough Texans sign this petition and share our stories, Texas legislators will see that we mean business when it comes to protecting everyone’s right to an education, allowing undocumented students to pay in-state tuition, and protecting educational equity. The more we speak up, the more pressure they will feel to stop playing political games with our education. Don’t they know by now? You don’t mess with Texas Dreamers.

  • Schedule a Meeting with your Senator: Josh Hawley
The Senate must bring the Dream Act, the Secure Act, and the Farm Workforce Modernization bills to the floor by April 30. Congress is in recess until April 11th. That's why we want to use every day until then to reach out to our Senators, share our stories, and call for action. A pathway to citizenship is extremely popular with the American people. According to a Quinnipiac poll, 83% of Americans support a pathway to citizenship for immigrant youth. According to a recent PRRI poll, 64% of Americans support a pathway to citizenship for ALL undocumented people. The majority of voters (55%) also said they would be less likely to vote for a Senator who votes against citizenship bills. Our country is at our best when we live by our values of compassion, dignity and respect. Now is the time for our nation to implement humane infrastructure and policies that protect all immigrants and welcome people in a safe and dignified way.
