Get Osny Out of ICE Detention!

Osny is a law abiding 24-year-old young LGBTQ community member from Honduras who came to the United States at the age of nine. He is a DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) recipient in good standing, with a valid work permit and is currently a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant). He was detained by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agents on October 3rd, 2018 at his residence in Hacienda Heights, CA, where he lives with his mother and four other children, for whom he is the head of household. Osny is currently being held at: Adelanto ICE Processing Center, 10400 Rancho Road, Adelanto, CA 92301 – (760) 561-6100.

ICE agents arrived at his residence allegedly banging on the door and claiming they were police officers doing an alleged “investigation” of fraudulent activities involving his address. They abruptly woke his mother and 4 children, terrorized and questioned them about a fake dangerous individual who was supposedly using their address for fraudulent purposes and that was going to kill them all. Osny was not at home at the time and ICE agents asked his mother to call him. They spoke with him on the phone and asked him if he would cooperate with the “investigation” they were doing, to which he agreed. ICE agents arranged a meeting time with Osny for the next day; When they arrived, they asked him to come outside to see if he could identify the individual they were “investigating” at which point they detained him and took him away.

While at the above-mentioned detention center, Osny has experienced extremely harsh, and inhumane conditions, such as: total disregard for detainees’ well-being, lack of medical attention, and unsanitary living conditions, just to name a few. He has also met several other detainees and heard their horror stories. For instance, one the detainees who was recently suffering from a chronic tooth ache, was denied dental care had no other recourse than to pull his own tooth out.

The conditions at Adelanto ICE Processing Center are worse than deplorable. Detainees don’t even have soap to bathe or wash their hands, toothpaste to brush their teeth. The food they are fed is of the lowest quality and many times has already expired. The unit where Osny is being held, has been on quarantine for about a week due to the center’s negligence in screening new detainees. They are not able to receive any visits from family, attorneys or anyone for that matter. This is delaying detainees court cases for months to come and decimating their families’ lives.

Osny asked me to advocate for at least five other detainees, whose children have been separated from them and are in ICE custody. These individuals have been detained for months and don’t have any information about their children or if they will ever see them again.

These detainees don’t have attorneys or anyone who can represent them to make sure they are afforded due process. They are in dire need of donations to be able to receive legal representation and purchase basic living necessities.

My name is Marcos Suriel, and Osny is one of my dearest friends. I’m raising funds on behalf of Osny in order to cover his legal fees and the legal fees of at least five other detainees who have been separated from their children. It is my honor to advocate for Osny, his family and other ICE detainees who are being abused, denied medical care, and deprived of their basic human rights.

Why is this important?

It is appalling that these types of atrocities occur in the United States of America on our watch. I will do everything in my power to reach out to as many people as possible through news outlets and Social Media in order to expose the barbaric and inhumane practices of ICE and its processing centers.

I wholeheartedly hope that you find it in your heart to help with what you can and give these human beings a voice and bring their stories to light so that we can stop these atrocities against other human beings from continuing to happen in our society.
