Menlo Park, CA: Sanctuary City Ordinance
Attendthe Menlo Park city council meeting at 7pm on Tuesday, January 24th and demonstrate your solidarity with our immigrant community members by supporting the consideration of a sanctuary city ordinance for Menlo Park.
Why is this important?
Our immigrant community is particularly vulnerable to the current national rhetoric. These families feel scared and uncertain about being targeted and detained because of their immigration status. Immigrant children in Menlo Park schools feel scared and uncertain. We who favor adopting a sanctuary ordinance want Menlo Park to be inclusive and supportive of our most vulnerable community members, including immigrants.
Sanctuary ordinances have been passed in 300 cities and counties in the US. The goal of adopting a sanctuary ordinance is to strengthen the local community by increasing trust and communication between residents and city employees. With a publicly adopted sanctuary ordinance, immigrant families in the community are less fearful of federal intervention and therefore more likely to cooperate positively with local police, school officials and other city employees.
